Description
The project is developed for the restoration of the preserved monument of the Public Market & Clocktower in Lakki, Leros (Italain Rationalism, Portolago, Architect Rodolfo Petracco, 1934–1936) in order to be reused as a New Museum of Agro-Nutrition. Rationalism, an architectural movement which developed in early 20th-Century Italy, emphasised simple, functional design based on ideals of purity, reason and universalism. It drew inspiration from emerging trends such as modernism and the Futurist movement, as well as the classical geometry of ancient Greek and Roman temples.

The museum section is developed in 5 levels. The entrance is located on the ground floor, while the main interactive exhibition area is developed on the first floor. On the 2nd floor the restrooms are located, while on the 3rd floor it is placed the library and the archive. Finally, on the 4th floor the water tank that was used for the operation of the clock is preserved, as a museological exhibit. In addition, in the closed spaces of the Ground floor is placed the restaurant that opens to the main square with the palm trees, the bakery, the fish shop. The space around the atrium is used as a display and exhibition space for local products, mostly for vegetables and meet market products.

Through specific educational programs adults try to discover different types of food by preparing a complete meal. They are divided into two groups and begin the educational process. While one group creates recipes with the chefs, the other group improves their knowledge of food and nutrition. Then the two groups have the opportunity to prepare their own dish and at the end they gather around a large table to share their creations. Children are invited to discover the interactive educational area of the academy space inside the gallery. Kids can discover the world of food and nutrition through a variety of fun, educational games, including quizzes, fishing and grocery shopping.

On the third floor of the Tower is the space of the library and the archive in which the visitor can search for information about the History of Leros and navigate electronically between multiple bibliographic references and special editions that analyze the particular cultural tradition, customs and traditions. customs of the place. He will then inform the library staff about the search for the publication code. The staff of the library will take care of lending the edition to the visitor by identifying his personal data.
