Timber Houses Ermioni is a contemporary complex comprising three independent residences, perfectly integrated into the natural landscape of Argolis, near the charming town of Ermioni. Each residence features a ground floor, an attic and an underground level, with the exterior space offering a private swimming pool, creating a distinctive and memorable accommodation experience. The design of the structures embodies a "dialogue" between wood and stone, materials abundantly found in the natural landscape of the area. The stone-built ground floors and double-height wooden structures are seamlessly integrated into the surroundings, arranged along a theoretical axis that organizes the exterior and follows the plot’s boundaries. The buildings’ openings and outdoor spaces are oriented eastwards and southwards, whereas entrance to the plot is situated on the northern side. Layout linearity is reflected in the façades of the residences, where wooden shading elements function as light and privacy filters. The semi-outdoor spaces of the exterior living and dining areas blend effortlessly with the surrounding landscape. Water plays a dominant role in the design, with swimming pools introducing a smooth dynamic, while paved surfaces are carefully arranged to respect the natural morphology of the site. Upon a closer look, it becomes evident that the central axis is divided into parallel, interrupted lines, which delineate the position of each structure and organize the layout of each residence into distinct spatial units, enhancing both functionality and privacy.

The first one boasts a unified kitchen & living room area of 35 sq.m., a 23.65 sq.m. attic, and a 41.25 sq.m. underground area, with a shared bathroom and two separate storage rooms. The second section features a master bedroom with a private enclosed yard and an en-suite bathroom. The open space accommodates a private swimming pool. Blending stone and wood, this complex connects the local architecture of familiar and classic aspects with the modern principles of sustainability and innovation. Stone forms the base of the buildings, while wood gracefully elevates the structure, harmoniously integrating with the natural landscape. The contrast between rough and sleek surfaces achieves a balanced aesthetic. The use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) in the wooden structures evokes a sense of naturalness, while the stone masses at the base of structures resonate with the familiar forms of traditional homemaking.
In terms of its bioclimatic design, the complex features rainwater catchment systems and photovoltaic panels encased into the attics of the wooden towers. The rooftops of the stone structures are greened. The buildings are oriented with openings facing southwards and eastwards to maximize natural light and solar energy during winter months. A few north-facing openings help reduce thermal loss from cold north winds. Cross-ventilation ensures a fresh atmosphere during summer, whereas the CLT-paneled substructure offers excellent insulation, further enhanced with natural insulating materials. Additionally, the existing stone elements with their thermal mass, absorb heat during daytime and release it in the evening, maintaining a stable interior temperature.
